Redon

Odilon Redon (1840-1916) was one of the most enigmatic and visionary artists of the late 19th century, whose work is associated with the Symbolist movement. Born in Bordeaux, this self-taught artist achieved recognition late in life, spending the first part of his career creating dark drawings and lithographs, known as his “noirs,” populated with fantastic and nightmarish visions. Around 1890, Redon made a radical shift toward color, developing a luminous and dreamlike style with pastels and oil paintings depicting strange flowers, mythological figures, and hybrid beings. His art, oscillating between reality and dream, profoundly influenced avant-garde movements such as Surrealism and remains celebrated for its unique ability to materialize the invisible and explore the boundaries of human imagination.
