About VMuseum
VMuseum was born from a simple conviction: one work of art a day can change the way we see the world. The project began in January 2025 on Instagram under the name @LesPapillesdelArt. Every morning, a work selected from the public domain collections of museums around the world. A text to look at it differently. An invitation to pause, even for two minutes, in an overly busy day. What started as a personal practice became a community. Then a website. VMuseum.fr opened in May 2025.
Who is behind VMuseum?
My name is Vianney. I have long been passionate about art, convinced that art brings a sense of breathing room to each new day, that it slows time down and opens windows where you least expect them. I deepened this conviction through formal learning: evening classes at the École du Louvre, and even the playful learning path offered by Art Explora Academy, leading to a certification validated by Sorbonne Université. Not to become an art historian, but to look more carefully, understand more fully, and share more accurately. VMuseum is the natural extension of that journey.
What VMuseum Is
VMuseum is a virtual museum, an open showcase of collections from museums around the world. No walls, no queues, no ticket. Just works of art, texts to bring them to life, and a link to the original record held by the museum that preserves them. We are not replacing museums : we are inspiring people to visit them.
What You Will Find Here
Every day: a commented artwork drawn from the public domain collections of a museum somewhere in the world. Biographies: the great artists told in their context, with their doubts, their breaks, their lesser-known periods. Thematic features: Impressionism, Baroque, Symbolism, the Dutch Golden Age, to understand how movements take shape and transcend themselves. News: ongoing exhibitions, acquisitions, rediscoveries, to keep the site rooted in the living present of the art world.
How We Work
The curation reflects my own perspective on art, with a daily selection of a work drawn from open-access collections of museums worldwide. The texts are built by hand, then refined with the help of artificial intelligence, proofread, corrected, expanded, and validated by a human eye: mine. We stand behind this method: it allows us to publish every day with a level of rigour I could not maintain on my own. But the choice of works, the editorial point of view, the personal favourites, the news I uncover, the unexpected angles, all of that comes from me. If you spot a factual error, an approximation, or a debatable interpretation, write to us. We will correct it.
One Last Thing
VMuseum is not an academic journal. Specialists, art historians, curators and critics are our primary references, we read their work, we draw from it, we owe them a great deal. But that is not what we aspire to be. Our place is elsewhere: to offer a simple, accessible approach that makes you want to step inside a work of art without any prerequisites. Every text published here is an invitation to look, to feel, and to go and see for yourself.
Happy exploring!
Vianney
